The Josefina V. Cabigon Memorial Scholarship began during the first semester of Academic Year 2020–2021. It is sponsored by the family of Dr. Josefina V. Cabigon, a former UPPI professor and director from 1999 to 2002.

The scholarship is open to continuing graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Demography or Master in Population Studies programs.

It provides a ₱50,000 grant to support the writing of a MADEM thesis or MPOPS pre-print research paper. Preference is given to students who are financially in need and committed to public service.

Applicants must have successfully defended their thesis or pre-print research-paper proposal. Grantees must complete the thesis or pre-print research paper within the semester in which the grant is awarded.

UPPI Academic Excellence Award

The UPPI Academic Excellence Award was established in 2014 during the Institute’s 50th anniversary. It aims to inspire UPPI students toward academic excellence.

Each semester, an awardee is selected from among UPPI students based on General Weighted Average (GWA). To qualify, a student must have enrolled in at least nine units during the previous semester and must have no incomplete grade.

The student with the highest GWA of at least 1.5 receives the award. In the event of a tie, the student enrolled in the highest number of units receives the grant. If a tie remains, the grant is divided among the students with tied GWAs.

The award includes a certificate and a cash prize of ₱5,000.

UPPI graduate students may attend local and international seminars, lectures, and workshops. They may also participate in and help organize the annual Philippine Population Association International Scientific Conference and other academic conferences.
